hello,

I started shooting last year and started with a 2nd hand gun the walther lp400 carbon.
I do not like the trigger on this pistol and it is very difficult to adjust.
It feels like there is no 1st stage pressure and all 500 grams comes on the 2nd stage pressure.
Now i hear from fellow shooters that this can't compete with new guns like the walther 500 and the steyr evo 10.
Is this true or not.
i have my eye on a steyr evo 10 or 10 e but of course i hope this will do something to my grouping.
my grouping is currently decent with an average of 89/100 and a top score of 544/600

You should perhaps try and weigh your trigger, and see if it's possible to reconfigure the weight before switching to a new gun. The LP400 Carbon is a really great, olympic grade pistol. I don't know why your fellow shooters are acting like it's a Snowpeak PP20. It's the shooters who are competing not the pistols.

To answer some other relevant questions though:
- Can the LP400 compete against the LP500 and Steyr Evo 10 e? Yes, definitely.
- Is the Steyr a better gun? In most respects, yes.
- Will the Evo 10 e improve your grouping? Probably not.

The LP400 is a competitive pistol and will shoot with the best of them.
The trigger can be set up the same as any other competition pistol.
The ideal setting is with 300 to 350g on first stage and 150 to 200g on second stage.
With the factory springs the minimum second stage weight to work properly is about 120g.
There were a number of trigger spring revisions on the pistol, so look up the parts lists and
see which trigger spring set you have in your pistol.
The origional pistol has a hair clip spring that opposes the trigger spring,this balances one spring
against another and has the effect of removing trigger collapse after the sear breaks.
This was removed in the second revision, following complaints that you could not set a very light second stage.
I still have this spring fitted but to improve the second stage feel and weight range the spring was changed to a
lighter coil wire but longer and more coils.
Sounds like you need to see a good gunsmith that knows what he is doing and re-set your trigger.

Oh by the way, Damir Mikec seems to be having some moderate success with his LP400

Your trigger may simply be (far) out of adjustment.
The manual has a helpful diagram as well as instructions to help you adjust it.
