Anschutz 2002 Superair problem

Post by Ord031971 »

I have an Anschutz 2002 superair SSP air rifle.
Until yesterday, it worked fine.
Now, when cocked and loaded, the cocking indicator shows as normal, but pulling the trigger only goes click and the cocking indicator stays cocked.
Trying to re-cock the rifle causes the rifle to fire without touching the trigger.
Best I can tell from the manual, the trigger is a 5021.
Does anyone have any idea how to fix this?

I sold mine off just a few months ago so I'm going off memory... Something is making the striker bind up. When you try to re-cock it, it's getting moved enough to let the striker fly forward to hit the valve.

Any chance you tightened the action screws, took the action out of the stock, or anything else that would put some torque on the action?

Also, have you messed with the safety to see if it is in play during this phenomenon?

Thanks for the reply.
No intentional adjustments to stock or trigger screws.
Working fine one minute, malfunctioning the next.
Tried with and without the safety with no help.
May be something simple such an adjustment screw working loose, I hope. There are a number of accessible screws in the trigger guard, so it’s possible that they were accidentally moved.
The manual mentions stop screws but they’re not mentioned as such in the parts list

It's possible the firing pin/striker is gummed up from old oil -or- your valve is getting sticky and is on its way out. Pray to your deity of choice that it's not the latter because replacement valves are about as plentiful as unicorn farts.

I'd take the action out of the stock and start looking around the trigger/action area to see if you can find anything out of place. If you feel confident in pulling the trigger assembly you might find something between the trigger and the firing pin/striker.

Good luck!

Thanks again for the replies and I’ll see what I can see when the action is out of the stock.

Related question: I’ve always been told that the 2002 can’t be dry fired, but the manual doesn’t say anything about that. Does anyone know for sure?
